Internet Privacy Policy

The Internet contains a wealth of information for you and your family, but it also can contain personal information about you that you don’t want people to know, such as your address, phone number, email address. MLUPC is doing everything we can to protect your privacy while you are on our web site. We respect and protect the privacy of our users. If and when we collect information from you we will clearly state why we need that information and within this Privacy Policy we will state what we do and don’t do with that information. Be assured that your personal and private information, if collected, is secured and not available to other users or even to those operating the web site unless there is a specific need to know.

MLUPC will not disclose your personal information to any third parties without your prior consent, unless so requested by law enforcement for identifying, contacting or bringing legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with MLUPC, MLUPC users or anyone else that could be harmed.

There may be times when we ask you for personal information, such as your name and email address, in order to receive information from us such as schedules of events and classes, prayer lists, activities of certain organizations in the church, outreach mailing lists, etc., but it will be clear why we need that information. If you change your mind or some personal information changes (such as an address), we will provide a way for you to contact us and have that information changed, updated, or removed. You will be able to do that by emailing the webmaster at webmaster@mlupc.org.

To allow you to keep control over your personal information, we will allow you to opt-out of receiving information from us, such as sharing your information with others in the church or a community within the church, receiving information from us on upcoming events, new features on the web site. You can opt out by emailing the webmaster at webmaster@mlupc.org.

Policies for Children (Individuals 13 years of age and under)

MLUPC encourages parents and guardians to spend time with their children online. No information should be submitted to or posted on MLUPC’s web site by users 13 years old and younger without the consent of their parent or guardian. Unless otherwise disclosed during collection, MLUPC will not provide any personally identifying information, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever for our users 13yrs and younger. If any services or features on the site require registration, a user 13 years old and younger will be required to provide the email of the parent or guardian which will allow us to notify that person that the child has registered for a service or feature. Parental or guardian consent will consist of an email from that person to MLUPC stating that they are aware that the child is using the web site. Identifying a user as 13 or under is not easy and MLUPC will not be held responsible for anyone masquerading as over 13 when in fact they are not and we have no reliable way to discover that. In fact, MLUPC does not have any way to positively identify the age of the user; even asking the user is not reliable.

Policies for Teens (Individuals 14 to 17 years of age)

Teens will also be required to supply the email address of a parent or guardian and a notification message will be sent to that person in the case of a teen registering for a service or feature on the web site (e.g., senior high chat room, etc.)

Use of IP Addresses

The IP Address is a number that is assigned to your computer (either always or automatically when you go onto the Internet through your Internet Service Provider). Some services collect these IP addresses to automatically identify your computer. MLUPC may collect IP addresses for the sole purposes of ongoing administration of the web site, such as trouble-shooting bottle necks from other Internet Service Providers and auditing the use of our site. We do not link the IP address to any personally identifiable information, allowing the user to remain anonymous to us.

MLUPC uses software to analyze traffic to this web site. We do not create individual profiles for visitors.

Cookies

What are cookies? Cookies are information that a web site transfers to an individual’s PC for record-keeping purposes (e.g., if you are a Wall Street Journal Interactive user, a cookie on your PC allows you to go directly to the WSJ instead of having to give your user name and password each time). Cookies can save your preferences when you are at a site. The use of cookies is an industry standard and most major web sites use them

MLUPC will use cookies to help us see which areas of our web site are more popular, which are not, how they are being used so that we can improve and update our web site to more accurately meet the needs of our users. At some point in the future, if MLUPC decides to offer personalized services to its users, we will use cookies to make that personalization, customization of the MLUPC web site possible.

Most browsers (Microsoft Explorer, Netscape) are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to either refuse all cookies or to notify you when you are receiving a cookie and allow you to decide whether or not to accept it.
